Ollie came to the Animal Emergency Centre in July 2010 with a bloated stomach, or Gastric Dilatation and Volvulus (GDV). You can read more about his story on our NEWS page. Andrea, Ollie’s owner, shares her memories of his emergency care for us here:
“It would have been a couple of hours before we realised this was probably something very serious. It just started off like a ‘normal’ tummy upset, in and out of the house restless for about an hour, trying to be sick. He’d come jump back on the couch with me in between and sleep. It turned then into pacing around the garden and not coming in, dry retching, then it got to the point of where he just lay down on the grass. I felt his tummy which I thought was tighter than normal, so I got Gary to come out and see what he thought, and we gave yourselves a call. Quite quickly after this his tummy started swelling out.
I guess what I’m trying to say here is for anyone not aware of the condition, this can quickly turn into something nasty, you can’t take your eye off it.. If we’d just left the door open for him to go in and out we wouldn’t have had him today.”
