What to expect

BEFORE YOU COME

It is helpful if you phone to let us know you are coming (09) 849 2121.

The hospital has dedicated, ample parking.

ON ARRIVAL

For security reasons, the hospital is locked during our opening hours. Please press the bell to the left of the main glass doors to let our staff know you have arrived.

Bringing your pet to the Animal Emergency Centre is similar to visiting the A&E Department at your local hospital. Patients are assessed on arrival, and ranked in terms of urgency. Life threatening emergencies are our first priority, and these patients will be seen first. If your pet has a less urgent complaint your wait may be longer. There is no appointment schedule and predicting wait times is difficult.

OUR SERVICE

Your pet will be assessed by one of our qualified veterinary nurses, and examined by a member of our team of emergency veterinarians. For most of the year we are fortunate to host final year veterinary students from Massey University, on their Emergency and Critical Care rotation. Your pet may be assessed by a student if we feel it is appropriate for your pet’s condition. Please tell us if you would rather not have involvement with the students.

You will receive respectful, empathetic and professional service from our team, and your pet will be cared for in a gentle and compassionate manner.

EXAMINATION FEE

  • $117.31  Evenings and weekends
  • $154.54  Midnight to 8am
  • $181.27  Public holidays

Ongoing treatment costs will be discussed prior to admission. A deposit of 50% of the total estimated fee is payable on admission, with the balance due at collection.

CLIENTS OF THE VETERINARY SPECIALIST GROUP

If your pet is staying overnight in the Veterinary Specialist Group (VSG®) hospital, please be reassured that the Animal Emergency Centre staff are on site at all times to ensure your pet continues to receive the high standard of care overnight that they are given during the day. As our team do not have primary case responsibility for these pets you are best to communicate directly with your specialist to receive progress updates.

The VSG® specialists are not available for consultations outside normal business hours. If your pet becomes ill when VSG® is shut the Animal Emergency Centre is your first port of call, as our team will have access to your pet’s VSG® medical records.
