emergency veterinarians
Dr. Rosemary Price
Rosemary completed a Bachelor of Social Science, and a Masters of Management Studies before ultimately deciding that veterinary science was her real passion, and heading for vet school. After qualifying from Massey Rosie worked in general practice for two years before joining our team in 2009. She has developed an interest in the nutrition of critical patients, and enjoys the exciting pace of emergency medicine.
Never one to sit still, Rosie and partner Fraser are kept busy on their small block, with their two daughters, the dog Basil (pictured here), Rascal the cat and an assortment of calves and horses.
Dr. Mark Silbiger
Mark is a veterinarian from the United States who has been living in New Zealand for the past 2 1/2 years. He is an experienced vet who has worked in emergency/critical care medicine and owned a small animal practice in the States. He attends a large veterinary conference every year for his continued professional development (CPD). Mark enjoys the challenging cases seen in emergency medicine and trying to help his patients get better.
Dr. Liz Means
Liz has been a veterinarian at AEC since December 2010. After several years working in a general practice clinic she is enjoying the challenge and has just completed a post-graduate paper in emergency medicine. She lives with her husband, miniature pinchser cross Zoe, cats Leto and Finn, 2 lovebirds and some tropical fish.
Dr. Dominique Sawyere
Dominique graduated from Massey university in 2010. After graduating she completed a one year rotating internship at VSG which involved working closely with the AEC. During this time she gained confidence handling a wide range of cases and developed an addiction to the fast and demanding pace of emergency work. Dominique has a strong interest in surgery and hopes to be accepted into an American internship program in 2012.
In her spare time Dominique likes to keep active, whether its 6am boot camp or a day of skiing. When not out and about she can be found sharing a book with her cat, appropriately named Flea, for his black coat and his love of sitting on heads.
emergency veterinary nurses
fiona marmont
Fiona completed a Bachelor of Applied Animal Technology in 2006 and joined the Animal Emergency Centre team as Nursing Manager in October 2011. Prior to that she was working as a nurse for the internal medicine department at the Veterinary Specialist Group. Her interest in the veterinary field began at a young age and grew from a general love of animals into the determination to pursue a career working with animals. After working as a veterinary nurse for a number of years now she still has a passion for the job and especially enjoys the unpredictability of emergency work as well as nursing critical cases.
cecilia hurly
Cecilia has been part of the Animal Emergency Centre nursing team since graduating from Unitec with a Diploma in Veterinary Nursing. Her dedication to this area of veterinary nursing allows her to follow her passion for nursing critical and compromised patients. Cecilia lives on a lifestyle block with extended family and her four legged canine companions Summer and Molly. Life is never dull as there is always a project on the go, from moving the cows to a new paddock to taming the weeds and raising orphaned puppies.
teyla broekes
Teyla has been working as a veterinary nurse for six years and has been with the AEC since 2008. She really enjoys the fast paced work of emergency practice, and helping her patients through their crises. She finds it incredibly rewarding to see a dog walking around after being critically nursed through metaldehyde (snail bait) toxicity. Teyla lives in South Auckland with her partner, 1 dog, 2 cats, 5 birds and a variety of fish.
Flo Stark Simpson
Flo joined our team of full time AEC veterinary nurses in February 2011, after working in general practice for four years. Flo loves the ongoing learning she is exposed to at the Animal Emergency Centre, and using that knowledge to improve her management of the complex critical patients she nurses. In her spare time Flo enjoys hanging out with her fantastically laid back cat, Rascal.
administration
Dr. Lisa Ferguson – Practice Manager
Lisa joined the Animal Emergency Centre in 2007, adopting the role of Clinical Manager the following year. Though the majority of her time is now consumed with practice management, her passion for emergency medicine remains. Lisa is a 1991 Massey BVSc graduate. She has practised in New Zealand, and the U.K. where she completed the Certificate in Veterinary Radiology in 2003. She is undertaking a 10 month emergency medicine course in 2012, and plans to sit her ANZCVS membership examination in 2014.
In her spare time Lisa enjoys spending time with family, and keeping active walking with her 9 year old Rhodesian ridgeback.
Debbie Evans
Debbie is responsible for the efficient administration of the Animal Emergency Centre accounts. Arriving with extensive experience as a veterinary nursing team leader in general practice, Debbie started with the Veterinary Specialist Group in 2007. She has been part of the Animal Emergency Centre team since it opened.
In 2009 Debbie unwittingly found herself on the other side of the AEC and VSG reception desks when her German shepherd, Zena, became gravely ill. After ground breaking spinal surgery and weeks of intensive care Zena eventually made a full recovery against all odds. Debbie reports that an ongoing itchy skin issue is currently Zena’s biggest problem!
