Profile

The Animal Emergency Centre operates outside normal business hours as an emergency and critical care facility for the pets of Auckland and beyond. We function from the Veterinary Specialist Group (VSG®) hospital in Mt Albert, and work together with them to provide 24 hour care.

MISSION STATEMENT

To provide the best available emergency care to our patients in a state-of-the-art facility. To provide a safe and comfortable environment for our patients. To maintain a respectful friendly working team, and to be a user-friendly partner to the referring veterinary community.

CORE VALUES

We strive to accomplish our mission by adhering to our core values of:

  • Providing pet owners with ready access to excellent emergency care for their pets.
  • Treating each patient and owner as if we were in the same situation.
  • Providing a safe, clean, well-equipped hospital.
  • Enabling a positive and transparent relationship with referring veterinarians, through timely communication, flexibility and cooperation.
  • Accepting only the highest standards of respect amongst our team members, while taking pride and personal responsibility in the details of every task.
  • Constantly searching for means to ascend nearer our mission.

who we are

Late in 2007, when the Animal Emergency Centre (AEC) opened for business, the idea hatched several years earlier by Mark Robson, medicine specialist and partner at VSG®, became reality. Although a separate entity, the Animal Emergency Centre is closely linked with VSG®, with a shared facility and common directors. The AEC is dedicated to being a national leader in emergency care, and is committed to ongoing staff education.

what we do

In basic terms the Animal Emergency Centre treats sick animals outside normal business hours. To clarify further, the AEC has three roles. As well as accepting emergencies at any time during our opening hours, we are also responsible for the overnight observation and treatment of all patients under VSG® care. Our third undertaking is to provide a similar service for local day time practices, thus allowing local veterinarians to send their critical and post-operative patients to be cared for overnight. With access to the necessary diagnostic technology, the AEC is equipped to monitor the most critical and dynamic of patients.

At all times during our opening hours we have a minimum of one emergency veterinarian, and one emergency veterinary nurse on duty at the AEC. At most times you will find a team of veterinary nurses working together in assessing newcomers and attending to the comfort of hospital patients.
